Becoming Money Wise

Becoming Money Wise
By:"Phil Strong","Joshua Moore"
Published on 2008 by Maruki Books

WiseMoney - take control of your finances and create your future is based on the seminars that Phil Strong has been delivering to audiences throughout NZ since 2004, when he realised that financial literacy is at the root of most family challenges, and that our young adults are growing up, earning money and yet have no idea how to get ahead of the financial treadmill they find themselves on of money in-money out and nothing left over. While there are other great books on finance, investment and on how and why most people either don't make it or they explore the reasons why some people are successful - Phil believes there are fundamental issues not being addressed as to how the basics need to be dealt with before moving ahead to better understanding where to put your money when you have some spare. This book is all about taking control of your money and financial habits, getting clear of debt in order to have a great lifestyle. Aimed mainly at under 30 year olds, who may have student debt, are settling into careers and starting families, this book is exceptionally useful for anyone of any age who has never mastered their credit card, mortgage or ability to save and pay cash for things they want.

Tax Compliance in Tanzania

Tax Compliance in Tanzania
By:"Kibuta Ongwamuhana"
Published on 2011 by African Books Collective

This book examines the problems of low-level tax compliance in Tanzania. It proceeds from the premise that high-level taxpayer compliance is essential to the success of the tax system. The author argues convincingly that tax enforcement alone (namely, detection and punishment of tax delinquency), will not of itself lead to high-level tax compliance. He posits that there exists a strong link between good governance and taxpayer compliance; tax compliance levels reflecting effectiveness of tax administration, taxpayer attitudes towards taxation and towards government in general. He argues further that these attitudes are formed in a social context, including factors such as perceived fairness of the tax structure, the ability of government to deliver services to its people and the legitimacy of government. Tax reforms which aim only at reforming the tax administration so as to make it more modern, efficient, and responsive, cannot achieve optimum tax compliance if such tax administration reforms do not go hand in hand with the creation of a caring attitude in the tax institution backed up by a government committed to serving its people. The book focusses primarily on tax compliance in Tanzania, but it also examines relevant data from the neighbouring countries of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zambia, which have undergone tax administration reforms similar to Tanzania and are equally concerned with tax compliance, The author does not limit himself to the African continent; numerous examples are taken from, and references make to cases in the US, Canada, UK, Australian and other developed economies since the fundamental issues about tax compliance are essentially the same everywhere.

International Tax Primer

International Tax Primer
By:"Brian J. Arnold","Michael McIntyre"
Published on 2002-10-08 by Kluwer Law International

The international aspects of income taxation have become increasingly important as countries worldwide have become more economically integrated. International Tax Primer provides an introduction to the policies that countries seek to advance with their international tax rules, with numerous examples drawn from the practices of both developed and developing countries. It grew out of the authors' work with the OECD in conducting seminars on international tax for tax officials in countries emerging from the collapse of the Soviet Union. The book strikes a balance between the specific and the general by illustrating the fundamental principles and structure of international tax with frequent reference to actual practice in a variety of countries. Coverage includes: the role of the tax adviser; tax planning techniques; international double taxation; transfer pricing; anti-avoidance rules; tax treaties, including discussion of the OECD and UN Model Treaties; emerging issues, such as e-commerce and harmful tax competition.

Numerical Methods in Finance

Numerical Methods in Finance
By:"Paolo Brandimarte"
Published on 2003-10-13 by John Wiley & Sons

Balanced coverage of the methodology and theory of numerical methods in finance Numerical Methods in Finance bridges the gap between financial theory and computational practice while helping students and practitioners exploit MATLAB for financial applications. Paolo Brandimarte covers the basics of finance and numerical analysis and provides background material that suits the needs of students from both financial engineering and economics perspectives. Classical numerical analysis methods; optimization, including less familiar topics such as stochastic and integer programming; simulation, including low discrepancy sequences; and partial differential equations are covered in detail. Extensive illustrative examples of the application of all of these methodologies are also provided. The text is primarily focused on MATLAB-based application, but also includes descriptions of other readily available toolboxes that are relevant to finance. Helpful appendices on the basics of MATLAB and probability theory round out this balanced coverage. Accessible for students-yet still a useful reference for practitioners-Numerical Methods in Finance offers an expert introduction to powerful tools in finance.
